Attractions of South Padre Island
If you ever do get
beyond the beach and restaurants, you will find out
South Padre Island
has a large number of special
attractions.
For nature
and animal lovers, South Padre Island may be a dream come
true.
Some of the locations
on South Padre include the Dolphin Research and Sea Life
Center, dolphin watch party tours, Sea Turtles Rescue,
Laguna Madre Nature Trail and 3 different
parks.
This should give you
a rare opportunity to see the exotic wildlife indigenous
to this area and enjoy the summer ocean breeze at
the same time.
If you are more of a
history buff or a museum- goer, South Padre Island has
several museums as the Treasures of the Gulf Museum and
the Port Isabel Lighthouse Museum are a
testament.
These museums give a
chance to visit old and new South Padre Island whether it is
our distant past pertaining to shipwrecks, pirates and
treasure or are more recent past with the Port Isabel
Lighthouse.
Currently, it is the
only lighthouse made open to the public on the Texas
Coast.
For art lovers, we
have a number of other artistic exhibits including the Sand
Castle Exhibit at the South Padre Island Visitors Center and
the Whaling Wall.
Plus, if you happen to
come in October, you can see Sand Castle
Days.
This is a competition in
which artists battle it out to see who can make the best
sand castle.
These types of events
are especially good for those who are on a small or
tight budget.
For the athletically
inclined, you could do any number of water sports or
even
explore the Texas Clipper by
going scuba diving or playing 18 holes of golf in a
nearby luxurious golf course that hosts the Senior Texas
Open.
That’s right, there
is something for everyone at South Padre Island as the
attractions are endless. So if you ever do manage to get
tired of the beach, remember there is plenty to do.
Once done with the attractions, check our list of housing
options at
South Padre Island
Accomodations.
