Fun
Beach Activities
South Padre Island
beaches provide you with an opportunity to do a great many
thigns while on the beach.
Although you probably already have a good idea of the
things you may want to do while at the beach, we have put
together our list of fun beach activities that can be done on
South Padre Island’s beaches. This list will not include
some of the larger activities like South Padre Island
Fishing, as these are
discussed in other areas.
-
Build Sand
Castles.
This is an
activity that the whole family can enjoy and it allows you
to really show off your creative
abilities.
All that is needed is a basic shovel and
pail.
From here, you can get quite intricate with scrapers
and the use of glue pastes.
-
Throw the Football or Frisbee
Around.
This seems to be a staple at every beach I have ever
been to.
This gives you a chance to play catch with family and
friends in an environment you do not normally get to be
in.
So go long and enjoy the new
environment.
-
Body boarding or boogy
boarding.
These are a hit with the kids as they allow them to
stay close to the shore and ride the
surf.
Also, these are fun amusement for the parents as they
watch their kids in action.
-
Read a Good
book.
Find a
quiet place on the beach and sit back on a big beach towel
and chair and read a good fiction paperback
or newspaper.
The cool breeze and calm background noise will be
enjoyable and therapeutic.
Be sure to bring an umbrella to give you some additional
shade.
-
-
Go Tanning with or without the
Radio/Ipod. This gives you a chance to get
yourself a rich golden tan and enjoy either the
ambience around you or listen to your favorite
hits.
-
Go crab
hunting.
Beat the
rush by going out to the beach in the early morning and go
hunting for crabs.
The kids will love this is as they move about trying
to catch the next scampering
crab.
-
Collect
seashells.
Bring the
kids and go collect seashells on the
shore.
Then, go shopping to find more interesting
shells.
After the trip is over, make necklaces out of the
shells.
This will give the kids a nice reminder of the
trip that they can hold on to for many years to
come.
-
Feed the
seagulls.
The
seagulls are plentiful at South Padre Island and they love
to eat.
Bring along some shrimp or a loaf of bread and feed
the birds along the shore.
-
Play beach
volleyball.
Play volleyball the way it was meant to be
played.
Due to the out-going nature of the South Padre
Tourists, you should have little trouble joining a game or
finding some people to join
yours.
-
Go off the beaten
path.
If you have a four wheel drive vehicle, head north on
the island and go past the
pavement.
You won’t
be allowed to drive over any sand dunes; however, you will
get a chance to go down an exciting path less
traveled.
-
Enjoy the Fireworks at
night.
South Padre Island offers a fireworks show on the
bayside on every Friday during the
summer.
Choose a good spot at either a bay side restaurant or
the beach where you can take in the
show.
-
Make sand
angels.
You are
probably more familiar with their snow counterpart;
however, you can still make these in the sand with your
family.
-
Make a sand
tomb.
Bury
someone in sand (That is from the neck
down).
Just don’t forget to let them out after
awhile.
-
Go Tent
Camping.
Take a
walk on the rugged, wild side and setup a tent that allows
you to camp out on the beach.
This gives you a chance to enjoy the gulf breeze and
quick access to the beach.
-
Go bayside and watch the
ships.
Take some time out to gawk at all the different types
of ships in Laguna Madre bay.
This is a rare chance for the landlubber in you to
see the sea-going life up and
personal.
-
Go fish.
Not fishing mind you.
We mean bring a deck of cards and play this or your
favorite card game.
Something about being out on the beach makes this
event much more interesting than
normal.
-
Enjoy the
sunrise.
If you
have never experienced a sunrise on the Texas coast, be
sure to plan one.
There is something both magical and awe-inspiring
about seeing this single event.
Just the experience of it should galvanize you for
the rest of the day.
-
Go Cowboy.
Bring a stake and a couple of horseshoes and play a
game of horseshoes on the beach.
This is a fun leisure activity which can be both
competitive and amusing.
-
Moonlight walk on the
beach.
Take a walk along the beach after dark with your
special someone.
The surf and the stars give off a romantic flair that
should not be missed.
-
Fly a Kite. Although this may not seem like
that much fun. The South Padre Island winds make
this better than normal and even a bit
challenging.
-
Make
Footprints.
For the
little ones, take them out to the beach and make foot
prints in the sand.
Watch their eyes light up as they see their
tracks.
As you have gone
through this list, you have probably thought of a few things
that could have been added to this
list.
That is ok.
The main goal is to start to get you thinking on what
activities you would like to do.
Oh yeah, one more thing.
Don’t forget to bring the waterproof
camera.
Memories are great, but pictures can last a
lifetime.
