The
Skinny on South Padre Island &
Kiteboarding
Kiteboarding in
South Padre Island is the new “it” activity to
do.
For those who have never witnessed kiteboarding before,
immediately go to Youtube and type in “kiteboarding” to check
it out.
This is an awesome, adrenaline pumping experience that is
one part art and one part pure fun.
This new sport of about 15 years is one that has begun to
become quite popular in South Padre
Island.
If you follow extreme sports, this sport is probably not
new to you.
However, this does not reduce any of its
appeal.
Describing
Kiteboarding can be a little bit
harder.
Simply put, it is a person attached to a broad style
wakeboard who is pulled by a kite through the
water.
Yet, this does not begin to take into account its mass
appeal.
By using the wind as a source, the rider is able to do a
large number of jumps effortlessly in the air and catch a bunch
of waves.
Picture a free-style approach that has a mixture of
surfing, wakeboarding and skiing all rolled into
one.
However, its main attraction is that you can make huge
dynamic jumps that are not normally associated with water
activities.
The opportunity to
make these flips, turns, and to fly through the air is too
much for most visitors to pass up.
If you are going to go do it, it is a very good idea
to get kiteboarding lessons.
Due to the extreme nature of the sport, kiteboarding
requires serious physical demands of the body and thus has some
safety issues.
Still, these safety concerns are being met by the
industry and the equipment is getting better and better with
each passing year at reducing
injuries.
Also, South
Padre Island Kiteboarding companies tend to follow a
time-tested instruction manual which allows participants the
opportunity to follow the training plans of
others.
All instructors make a special effort to walk the
participants through the plan
step-by-step.
Costs of training
lessons aren’t exactly cheap as they begin at
$200.
The good news is it provides you with instructor-led
supervision to help you with each aspect of
kiteboarding.
Plus, you have the opportunity to learn additional tips
and tricks from these wise pros of
Kiteboarding.
Once you have completed your training, you can expect to
be able to rent equipment beginning at $175 for a 3 hour
interval.
This time should be more than enough to show off what you
learned and try some new moves.
Most companies also provide the opportunity to either
photograph or record your
kiteboarding.
This is a good
idea as it will allow you to share your awesome flips and turns
with family and friends back home or later that night in your
room.
One final thought:
invite your friends and family to watch you go
kiteboarding.
Due to the out-of-the-ordinary nature of the sport,
kiteboarding has a tendency to draw a
crowd.
Let your family and friends cheer you on as part of the
crowd.
Who knows, you might be able to show off your skills and
become the king of the beach for the day. If you are
looking for something that is a little less challenging, check
