Rainy Day Activites In South Padre Island  

Naturally, the main reason most people come down to South Padre Island is to enjoy the wonderful sun, beach and surf. Therefore, nothing can be more frustrating when the weather turns bad and it starts to rain. However, if you think you are forced to be holed up in your room until the storm passes, you are sorely mistaken. South Padre Island has a multitude of activities that you can do when it rains. Here, is our list be sure to check them out.

 

  1. Go to the Dolphin Research and Sea Life Nature Center and learn everything you ever wanted to know about dolphins. 
  2. Visit the Port Isabel Historical Museum and see the only Light House made available to the public on the Texas coast. 
  3. See the Treasures of the Gulf Museum to get your fill of history about shipwrecks, legends, pirates, and more. 
  4. Shop the many souvenir and t-shirt shops. There are plenty to choose from and a wide variety of trinkets, apparel, and keepsakes. 
  5. Watch videos of previous windsurfing, kiteboarding or other activities you or your friends have done. 
  6. See a movie at Island Cinema 4. 
  7. Read a book out on the balcony if the weather is not too bad or just enjoy watching the storm. 
  8. Take a look at the Whaling Wall at the SPI Convention Centre. This can be viewed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. 
  9. See the South Padre Island Visitor Center Sand Castle. This can be seen 7 days a week from 8:00am to 5:00pm. 
  10. Drop the kids off at the video arcade on the southern tip. 
  11. Go to an art gallery at Art Local & Beyond, Funky Feet Gallery, or Sons of The beach or a sports memorabilia store at Island Sports Cards. 
  12. Get a cup of coffee and a copy of the morning paper and hang out one of the local coffee shops. 
  13. Go Jewelry shopping for your special someone. South Padre has a number of different jewelry shops on the island. 

This rainy day activities list should help get you out of your doldrums and give you a chance to try something different until the sun returns.
